Hermitaur
A small, red Carapaceon known as the Hermitaur, it is the adolescent version of the much larger Daimyo Hermitaur. They live mainly in Jungles and Deserts, usually near water, but can also be found in the cave systems of the Swamp. When they are left undisturbed, Hermitaurs are most often seen picking through sand with their claws, presumably searching for food. The shell on their back was actually grown by the crab itself; only when they grow much larger, into a Daimyo Hermitaur, will they replace it with a Monoblos skull, or into a Diablos skull if they grow into the Plum Daimyo Hermitaur subspecies. Sometimes, a Hermitaur may wait beneath the ground for prey or a hunter to pass, jumping out of ground and striking them when they walk over. A Hermitaur that's burrowed underground can be spotted by the puffs of dust that it regularly spits out. Hermitaurs have a nasty temper, and will attack just about anything.
Daimyo Hermitaur
The Daimyo Hermitaur are large, red carapaceons that inhabit deserts and jungles. They are the slightly bigger, less aggressive cousin of the the Shogun Ceanataur and tend to be ignorant of their surroundings. A common variety near a desert oasis or the jungle shores, they leave their eggs under the protection of older Hermitaur siblings to fend for themselves.
Daimyo Hermitaur carves are used to make Hermitaur armor, which is an excellent armor for tackling Lvl 2-4 Elder quests. Their armor primarily focuses on defensive protection, which is a reflection on the monster itself.
It resides within a Monoblos skull, which the Daimyo Hermitaur utilizes for its own offensive and defensive purposes. When it hides within its shell, most enemy attacks will bounce straight off, but the Daimyo's shell and its horn can be broken with a Hammer, Hunting Horn or Lance for extra rewards, the player can also receive a monoblos's heart by killing a Daimyo. When provoked, a Daimyo Hermitaur will attack with their powerful claws to knock hunters to the ground, ram into them backwards with the horn on their Monoblos skull, or fire powerful jets of water at them. Their hearing can be disturbed by a sonic bomb, but only when they have retreated into the safety of their shell.
In Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, Daimyo Hermitaur has a new move; it wriggles its skull, then jumps backwards multiple times at the hunter. It is also able to jump in the air and then aim at the hunter as it falls.
When weak, the Daimyo Hermitaur froths at the mouth with dark grey-purple bubbles, but when they are enraged they will bubble at the mouth like they normally do when preparing for a water jet attack.
Plum Daimyo Hermitaur
The Plum Daimyo Hermitaur is a large, purple Carapaceon that inhabits the desert. It is a Daimyo Hermitaur color variant that wears a Diablos skullshell instead of a Monoblos skullshell. It is featured in the Japanese game Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. Unlike its red counterpart, the Plum Daimyo Hermitaur is weaker to the Ice element, rather than Thunder. The horns on its shell can be broken, just like a Diablos.
Ceanataur
A small, blue Carapaceon known as the Ceanataur, it is a younger version of the much larger Shogun Ceanataur. They live mainly in Volcanoes. Their extremely sharp claws allow them to tunnel through the volcanic rock in their habitats. The shell on their back was actually grown by the crab itself, only when they grow much larger, into a Shogun Ceanataur, will they replace it with a Gravios skull. Although they are actually young Shogun Ceanataurs, they appear simply as a re-colored Hermitaur with sharper claws and leg stubs and a higher-edge shell. They are able to spit a small ball of purple fluid at an enemy, poisoning them. Sometimes, a Ceanataur may wait beneath the ground for prey or a hunter to pass, jumping out of ground and striking them when they walk over. A Ceanataur that's burrowed underground can be spotted by the puffs of dust that it regularly spits out.
Shogun Ceanataur
The Shogun Ceanataur(s) are large, blue Carapaceons that inhabit swamp and volcanic zones. They live in and seek protection in Gravios skulls, conch shells, or a Lavasioth skull . When repeatedly hit, this defense can completely break apart, allowing players to receive more rewards such as Wyvern Skull Shell or Gravios Skull Shell.
Terra Shogun Ceanataur
The Terra Shogun Ceanataur is an alternate species of Shogun Ceanataur. The Terra Shogun Ceanataur has the same elemental weakness, apart from an additional vulnerability to Water on his rear shell. Instead of blue and grey, it is black and a reddish-orange color. Terra Shogun, as is normal for a colour variation, is slightly stronger, faster and has more health than the original. Instead of a normal Gravios skullshell on its back, it has a Black Gravios skullshell.
Shen Gaoren
Shen Gaoren is a giant Carapaceon that roams the land. This is the reason why the Fortress or Town is under siege. It is known for its gray skin, towering legs and gigantic green-yellow balls of acid generated and hurled from the rear of its body, which carries the skull of a Lao Shan Lung. Its colossal size helps it to defeat most creatures. The diet of Shen Gaoren is unknown - however, it is likely to be omnivorous, like most real-life crabs. When the legs of Shen Gaoren become weakened, they become inflamed, turning blood red, suggesting it's suffering from internal bleeding in its legs. The name Shen Gaoren is derived from the Chinese abbreviation of "God/Spiritual being(Shen) Tall(Gao) Person(Ren)" or in Chinese "神高人."
Akura Vashimu
The Akura Vashimu is a scorpion-like carapaceon that is thus far exclusive to Monster Hunter Frontier. The Akura Vashimu has blue-purple crystals growing on its claws, back, and tail tip. It has a huge geode mineral on its tail tip that shoots out a high-pressure venom at its enemies, causing them to be semi-frozen (like the Snowman effect) and lose all stamina (like the Chameleos gas effect). The Akura rests and hides underground, protruding its large mineral tail tip on the surface. If it is aware of nearby enemies, its tail breaks out of the sand and swings around violently, hurting anything nearby. It is possible to temporarily break the tail crystal, but the geode will quickly grow back. Its attack pattern and breakable parts may depend on the colour of its blood (grey, red, green, blue) but if it's red, then it will signify that Akura Vashimu is near death.
Akura Jebia
The Akura Jebia is a scorpion monster that lives in the caves of swampy areas. Where as Akura Vashimu is purple, Jebia is mostly white and blue. Covered in spikes and horns, it is much more efficient at dishing damage than Vashimu. It is thus far exclusive to Monster Hunter Frontier.
