Ludroth
Ludroth are highly aggressive and territorial aquatic monsters of the Leviathan family. The females of the species are known simply as Ludroth, while the less common males are known as Royal Ludroth .
Female Ludroth are mostly yellow-green in coloration, with long sinewy bodies that enable swift and sweeping underwater movements to confuse their prey. Their claws are stubby but effective, and their tails taper into a thin, fan-like shape. There is a vague reference to komodo, but their longer neck and their habitats (underwater), show a greater relation to early plesiosaurs, such as Nothosaurus. It also makes reference to the marine iguana, which is also a medium sized reptile that lives in the ocean, however the iguana is a herbivore.
Ludroth are known for their aggressive and territorial nature, as mentioned, and females are often known to stake out breeding grounds and form "harems" around a single Royal Ludroth. Ludroth can be troublesome on land, using their snake-like forms to slither and pounce hunters, and also spitting a corrosive solution that causes Waterblight. They emit a seal-like barking noise when threatened, and although dangerous on land, they are doubly so when confronted underwater. Notably more powerful, swifter, and with attacks that may disorient a hunter caught unaware, a Ludroth in her natural habitat can be a challenge; small crowds of Ludroth are also more often found underwater, and can quickly part even an experienced hunter from their good health.
Royal Ludroth
The Royal Ludroth is a medium sized Leviathan, and the alpha-leader to the Ludroth. It has a crown-like crest as well as a large yellow mane; both of which can be broken. Its tail can also be cut off for one carve. The Royal Ludroth uses a water bomb charge attack bearing some resemblance to the Gypceros' "Drunken Charge". The creature has been seen wherever Ludroths, smaller females of the same species, have been spotted. The Royal Ludroth shows gender-dimorphism, meaning the male is much larger than the female.
The mane around its neck acts as a sponge which it uses to store water while on land. Its sponge mane will shrink as it gets tired causing its ability to use water attacks to be hindered. Most often when this happens, it will retreat back to water to regenerate its Stamina. It can also roll in puddles to rehydrate.
Royal Ludroth also rolls as an attack to the hunter. There are 2 types of rolls that Royal Ludroth can perform. One in which it will do a short roll to its right, and another where it will do a roll/body slam that covers more distance.
Gobul
Gobul is a large angler, that shows great resemblance to both a blowfish and a flounder. It is found in the new Flooded Forest area. It sports a bio-luminescent lure, like an angler fish, it can protrude spikes out of its body, like a blowfish, and it can camouflage into the lake bed, like a flounder.
Gobul is often relatively passive, until it gets attacked. It spends most of its time laying under the river bed, exposing only its whiskers, to disguise itself as a common plant. During this hidden state, hunters can gather from it, but should be cautious as it is often a trap to lure its prey. This can also give several open spots for hunters to attack before it catches up. Sonic bombs can be used, in the same fashion as Diablos, to bring it out of hiding. While it tends to stay in the water, it does sometimes climb up on land, even if not chasing after prey.
When Gobul is under water and hidden in an area with a fishing spot, a Frog can be used to fish him out similar to fishing Plesioth on previous games. This causes him to flip over for about 15 seconds and he will then continue the fight on land in the current map. Fishing out Gobul is often a subquest and will lead to a bigger reward.
Its attacks include: "inflating" itself (exposing sharp spikes covering its back), then rolling over hunters, swinging its large, needle-covered tail, inflicting paralysis, and an underwater "vacuum breath," with which it draws hunters in close to its mouth and bites down. Otherwise, Gobul may hide underground to leap out at a target or recover stamina. Its bioluminescent lure can also inflict Faint status to the hunter, but can be broken just like the Gypceros's crest. Its lure can be broken and tail cut off. When enraged, Gobul will stay inflated, and its spikes will remain visible. When not inflated it is broad and flat, resembling a cross between a ray and anglerfish.
Lagiacrus
Lagiacrus is a blue Leviathan that mostly dwells in the sea/deep bodies of water and comes onto beaches to sunbathe. It has a hood-like crest on its neck to aid in sunbathing. The dermal spikes on its back glow white when it is using stronger thunder attacks, and its mouth gurgles with Thunder when it is enraged. Lagiacrus is found only at the Deserted Island and Flooded Forest. It is most at home in the water, but also more than capable of fighting on land.
When a Lagiacrus is fully sunbathed, it turns a dry grayish-blue color and its dermal spikes turn a pale red. When it returns to the water, Lagiacrus regains a striking deep blue coloration and its spikes return to their original color of a very light beige.
Uroktor
Uroktor are the younger form of the Leviathan Agnaktor. Just like their adult form, they have the remarkable ability to tunnel through solid volcanic rock. Uroktor are distinguished by their reddish purple skin, which protects them from both the sweltering heat and volcanic predators. Uroktor are very similar to the water-dwelling Ludroth, aside from the obvious difference in habitat, and the ability to burrow.
Agnaktor
This new species resides in the Volcanic Region. Its body shape is relatively unique, although there are vague similarities to Lagiacrus. It is noted for its remarkable ability to swim through lava and tunnel through solid volcanic rock. Its fighting style is closely related to Lagiacrus on land. It can also produce a Roar common amongst many monsters, charge at a hunter, swim straight through solid rock in order to smash into them and produce a powerful orange beam, highly reminiscent of the one produced by Gravios.
It has a younger form called Uroktor.
While fighting aboveground, the lava on Agnaktor's skin will cool off and become hardened rock, causing weapon strikes to bounce. The head and chest alone remain soft enough to strike, though even these parts will harden if enough time has elapsed. Its body will become soft again as soon as any part of it touches lava.
At the beginning of the battle, Agnaktor's body is completely coated in a special kind of rock armor. Much like Barroth, continued punishment to this armor will eventually break it off, but it cannot replenish this thick hide. When broken, parts of his body that may have deflected attacks will no longer do so, leaving Agnaktor exposed, and easily defeated. Breaking all of Agnaktor's legs will reward you with Agnaktor Claws.
It seems that it needs to create a spark by clacking its teeth in order to start a flame. This produces a very noticeable warning before the fire beam. This beam also makes the chest and head soft enough to strike again, as if Agnaktor had burrowed into lava. Agnaktor will also be able to fire this beam while half submerged in the lava. However, this beam's path is different from the one while Agnaktor is fully above the surface. Agnaktor will spin its head counter-clockwise while firing the beam, dealing tremendous damage to those surrounding Agnaktor. This can be avoided by running up to its chest as it is creating a spark, panic diving right when the beam is passing by, or blocking (requires the "Guard Up" skill). The beam is aimed either downward or parrallel to the ground. The Agnaktor is particularly vulnerable while firing the beam.
When low on stamina, Agnaktor will fail to produce its Heat Beam. It will then either sleep or prey on a Rhenoplos to regain stamina.
Sonic Bombs will trap Agnaktor, much like Diablos. Tossing a Sonic Bomb instantly after it has successfully burrowed into the ground will trap it. Also like Diablos, it is immune to this effect during Rage Mode. Be warned, it may use Heat Beam soon after surfacing. unknown to most hunters, the chest is capable to be broken twice, yet only possible if most attacks are targeted there. Hunters can also track where it will run to next before it surfaces there.
